Navigate 1.3.1 Discussing the LMS and CMS

LMS (Learning Management System) has a broader function than that of CMS (Course Management System). It is used to deliver online courses, to provide training programs, to manage registration and educational records, and much more.
CMS is the main function of LMS. Similar to a file repository, CMS offers a secure databank that manages online and instructor led courses. It also has a less need to be learning standards compliant.
The top vendors of LMS in the corporate sector are SumTotal, Saba, Meridian, IBM Smarter Workforce, SuccessFactors, NetDimensions, Oracle Taleo Learn Cloud, and Cornerstone OnDemand. In the education sector, some of the top vendors of LMS are Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Moodle, and Instructure Canvas.
An organization with expansion in vision or needing a means to demonstrate performance improvement through learning should adapt LMS. Since LMS has more robust functions than CMS, it can assist organizations in coping with growth.
