Communicate 2.1.2 Communication Guidelines

Individual Communication: Individual instructor communications are extremely important to the relationship with the student. An individual communication plan can be customized to allow for some individuality while still getting the information out.

Welcome Email: A “Welcome Email” sets the tone for the school year and should convey the basic requirements of the class. It should be as generic as possible, but can still convey the support and accessibility of the instructor.

Personal Communication: Personal notes are great for showing support or concerns to the stakeholders. They can be specific and pointed in order to address the needs of specific students or inform other stakeholders.

Mass Communication: Mass communications have their place when general information needs to be disseminated and no personalization is needed.

School Policies: Of course, all communications need to follow school policies and netiquette standards. Phone, voicemail, email, texts are all useful tools for communication. Sending emails with a carbon copy to yourself and administrators is a good way to keep track of your communications.

Examples of emails to parents/guardians and students:
